Ah Fairbanks! Nothing like -45 degrees to warm you up in the dead of winter! My wife wanted to see the Northern Lights and invited her mother to join us. The question became; Plane, Train, or Automobile. 358 miles of frozen road didn’t seem like the ideal choice, that and the fear of freezing to death from a break-down quickly took driving off the list. The train was a cool option, but it only leaves on Saturday morning and take 12 hours. Then, it heads back to town the next morning, leaving no time to actually do anything. Flights were around $200 per person, and was only a one hour flight each way.
